Why Humboldt Dream Run?

We are looking for individuals, businesses, local organizations, schools and churches to partner with us to really make a difference on many fronts. You can run on behalf of your favorite cause to raise funds for the Chicago Dream Center’s outreach and advocacy efforts in the community.

Hunger & Sustainability: Funds under this cause will go toward our Manna for Life food pantry. This past year, the Manna for Life ministry reached over 30,000 individuals with groceries. This includes many who are shut-in and have no other source of provisions if it were not for the mobile pantry. Each week, a team of dedicated volunteers bring groceries and a smile to those who need it most.

Homelessness & Clothing Needs: Any monies raised under this category will support three outreach programs. You will help purchase blankets, hats, gloves, and a hot meal for someone who is homeless. Referrals are made and friendships form through our Bridge to Life ministry. This team reaches out across the city of Chicago to extend a helping hand to the men, women, and youth sleeping in the streets and under bridges. This year we opened a shelter for homeless men - New Life for Men. We will equip the men and help them to become self-sufficient again. The Dream Center also operates a clothing pantry every Saturday to distribute clothing to adults and children who are in need. Last year we blessed over 100 individuals with winter coats.

Abuse and addiction: Help raise funds to support New Life for Women City/Farm. Our women’s recovery program provides the resources they need to overcome life-controlling situations such as abuse and addiction. Give someone a second chance, restore a family, and transform a life to become self-sufficient by running for our residential programming.

Human Trafficking: Run so that others may stop running. Our Rose of Sharon and Alabaster Dreams Outreach teams go out weekly to rescue those trapped in human trafficking, as well as addiction, prostitution, and abuse. Individuals often stay in these circumstances because they have no other option. We reach out with a lifeline to resources and agencies that can give them a way out.

Prison and re-entry: In the United States, the criminal justice system creates a tremendous financial and economic burden on our society. However, outreach to inmates and re-entry support programming can reduce recidivism sevenfold. Hope Behind Walls and Freedom Prison Ministries reach out to those who are incarcerated and/or offer long-term mentoring for participants.

At-risk youth and education: Help young men and women become self-sufficient by raising funds for our Axis Teen Center. Axis emphasizes education in working with homeless youth, as well as at-risk teens. This program strives to reverse the higher rates of depression, abuse, high school dropout, and violence that is prevalent among this vulnerable population.
